Tour Answers
Thanks for going on our Dinky Door Tour!
It means a lot to us that you’ve been out exploring our doors, so, thankyouverymuch.
Here are the answers to the questions…
Emailerator
Which box has the most spikes on top?
The big, red, Royal Mail post box has waaaaaay more than our Dinky Emailerator. We’re not jealous. Nope.
What else is unusual about the red postbox?
It has spikes
It doesn’t have a Royal Mail logo cast into the metal of the pillar. Normally, all boxes have the Royal Mail insignia, which makes this one almost completely anonymous (apart from the little logo on the white notice on the front).
Love from Above
Can you find four differences between our Dinky Door and its big sister door just around the corner?
On the original door to Trinity College’s Whewells Court:
The letter W is carved in stone on each side
The steps are worn down from years of people stepping on them
The sign doesn’t say ‘Mr D. Mon’
There’s a little rectangle of green on the left door.
Plus many more…

Not sure where you’d teleport, but we quite fancy teleporting home for a lovely cup of tea.
How much would it cost to teleport to King’s College Chapel?
As the crow flies, to the entrance gate, it’s 203 yards, which would make it 203 pence, but you need to pay in 3p coins, and for that, you’ll need 67 of them.

OctoSpa
How many 3p coins are needed for a 17 minute exfoliation bath and a full pedicure?

How many tentacles do octopuses usually have?
Well, this is a bit of a trick question. An octopus has eight appendages, each of which has rows of suckers running its length. But these are not tentacles — in strict anatomical terms, they are arms… Tentacles only have suckers towards the end of the appendage, which is why an octopus doesn’t really have tentacles!

What’s the Polybius book all about?
Well, ignoring for the minute that Polybius was a Greek historian, it relates to an urban legend of a ficticius arcade game from 1981. The story tells of an unheard-of new arcade game appearing in several suburbs of Portland, Oregon, something of a rarity at the time. The game is described as proving popular to the point of addiction, with lines forming around the machines often resulting in fighting over who would play next. The legend describes how the machines were visited by men in black, who collected unknown data from the machines, allegedly testing responses to the game's psychoactive effects. Players supposedly suffered from a series of unpleasant side effects, including seizures, amnesia, insomnia, night terrors and hallucinations. Approximately one month after its supposed release in 1981, Polybius is said to have disappeared without a trace... it's amazing really... you never know what weird books are going to grow next...
Dinky Shrinky
How is the Dinky Shrinky powered?
It's solar powered - there are three highly efficient solar panels on top of the observation laboratory, with the power running down a cable to the Dinky Shrinky itself.
What should you never shrink?
Black holes. We tried before, and it created a rift in the space time continuum that was really quite tricky to repair.
